National News: Funding for design studies in clean coal competition

Funding was today awarded to E.ON and ScottishPower for design and development studies as part of the competition to build one of the world's first commercial scale carbon capture and storage demonstration plants.
The funding will support Front End Engineering and Design studies, which will enable the bidders to further their designs for the projects at Kingsnorth and Longannet respectively. These studies involve detailed engineering and design work and will be completed within twelve months, after which the final competition winner will be selected.

Domestic & General open lines for Sport Relief Brighton contact centre

Domestic & General is dedicating its phone lines to Sport Relief from 6pm till midnight on Friday 19th March. 160 members of staff will accept telephone donations as an essential part of the BBC's nationwide television appeal. Volunteers are aiming to beat the £70,000 they collected in 2008 in just six hours. The night will kick off with a champagne toast from The Mayor followed by Olympic-themed fundraising games every half hour.
